A bad guesstimate

Did I say that replacement alternator and starter motor might come to F$1000? Silly boy, the first quote from the UK was £1000 inc shipping. A complete non-starter.
The engine electrical work should be finished this week.
I will only have one working engine.
I went to see Customs and it is unlikely that they will be granting an extension to the duty-free period. They were helpful and sympathetic and the manager of permits is consulting with colleagues to see what they can come up with. The first suggestion, which he rejected as he mentioned it, was a six-month extension duty payment of F$12000. It looks like one way or another I'll be leaving soon. They might surprise me and come up with a solution but I somehow doubt it.
Martin sent a 'follow-up' text about payment. I sent a fairly lengthy reply explaining why he could get stuffed. We have not spoken since.
That's about it really. I go into a sort of shell-shocked state when I realise that I've sat in this bloddy marina for nearly three months and the boat is almost in the same state as the day she was launched. It's finger-out time if I have any chance of leaving next week and sailing in company with Calypso to New Caledonia. I really cannot believe that I'm still in Fiji.

Hey ho, time to start tidying tools up in the port engine compartment and get the lid screwed down, I won't be going in there for a while. Maybe I can now move back into my cabin instead of sleeping on the settee.
