Must be making progress, I'm too knackered to walk back up the hill at the end of the day! Anyway, today was a good day. Not only did I pick up my letter from Immigration allowing me to re-enter Fiji on a one-way ticket but I did some more varnishing (and sanding, but that probably goes without saying....ooops, I just said it!),. Be that as it may;
Yes, I did decide to further sand the chart table and back wall. I wasn't sure so I asked Kuto. He was very polite (well, I am paying him) but it was obvious that he thought that more effort was required!
OK, dumb touches. In general the construction of the boat continues to impress as does most of the interior joinery, but there are a couple of real bloopers. If Mark is reading this, take a leaf out of Amel's book and make things accessible.
OK, this is a section of side-wall below the saloon side windows. A shelf screws into here, it's also glued. The lower attachments for the window blinds are screwed into then shelf.
You might have spotted the 'smallie problem'. How do you get to the screw head?
The shelf is a sort of plywood sandwich, glued together. In order to screw it to the wall you have to disassemble the sandwich, screw one secrion to the wall then glue the rest back together! Hmmmmm???? Not so smart Broadblue.
The shelf is positioned below the window.
Still looks like a bomb site! Bloody mozzies nibble at yer feet/legs as well. Particularly Sid (vicious, that is) first thing in the morning and around 1630 onwards.
Gosh, what a shiny table!! Tomorrow a quick sanding then the third and possibly fourth coat. You could eat your dinner off that, in fact give it a month or three and I will!
Well, that's yer lot fer now. More, much more I suspect later. martin the mechanic gave me a bit of bad news tonight, seems like the gasket and seal kit for the engines and saildrive legs comes to about F$6000 (about £2500!). Not sure if I got that right so I'll have to sit him down tomorrow. I may source those in the UK as I'm a bit suspicious and I want to talk to the Volvo guys at Hamble. Hey ho, it's only money. Get ready to buy the book, as soon as it's out believe me I'll be letting you know!
