It all started so well with a 6.5kt average speed over the ground, then the gennaker forestay 'sagged'. Gennaker being held up by halyard, not forestay. Rapidly roll away, rig up two more upper forestays using spinnaker halyards, so we now have three, one more than usual, and secure furling gear so it doesn't slam around. Not sure what's happened, there was no sudden twang or crack, so I think somehow the outer forestay has detached itself from the upper mast. I don't intend to go up the mast in a three metre sea, so maybe tomorrow we'll try and lower the whole shooting match onto the deck,,,,,maybe.
In the meantime, Aurora B is about 1 nm away and has reduced speed to stay with us, the seas are calming down and it's bean stew for supper. Speed is now anything between 4.5 and 6 kts over the ground, so about 5 days at sea, stopping at Niue is not an option, due to the direction of the swell. One bloody thing after another!
