The weather looks favourable to depart for the Marquesas either tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday. There appear to be about five boats planning on leaving in the same time frame so there is much planning of radio schedules and route discussions:
Beans are in soak to make the first night-at-sea meal of curried bean and chicken stew
laundry was taken ashore yesterday
Passports to our agent, Bolivar, this morning to start the checking-out paperwork
Shopping today (fresh fruit/veggies, eggs, breakfast cereals, milk and bread/chicken & dead cow)
Beer to be drunk & ice cream to be eaten tonight (Freya & I had a 'practice run' last night whilst Helen baked a loaf ~ and very nice it turned out too)
The Plan Stan is to head due west out of the Galapagos Archipelago then down to a position 3S 108W then rhumb line to the Marquesas. Like most plans this one may not survive first contact with the actual weather conditions, but we'll see. Just about 3000nm with the grib files 'promising' winds out of the S at about 10kts (hah!!!). Boats out there right now have a little more wind and some phenomenal daily runs are being reported (200+nm, but they are 50ft+ monohull flyers, I'll be happy to average 140nm per day which would mean a crossing of just under 22 days, hmm, well we'll see, won't we?). In the meantime.........
