Lemmon Cays
Well, yesterday was a hectic saiing day. We left
the East Lemmon Cays at the crack of 1030, motored, according to the Astro Nav
calculations 1.9nm to a place called Dog Island where we anchore off a wreck,
snorkelled it, had a beer ashore, brought a couple of Molas THEN we motored
another 1.9nm to Lemmon Cays. How did we cope with all that? If you're looking
at this position on Google Earth, pan around to the East to see Dog Island. I
haven't got internet connection so I don't know how it looks via the satellite,
but with luck you'll see the wreck almost up on the beach. Lots of highly
coloued fish etc etc. The present anchorage is not quite so inspiring, very
shallow in places (1 metre under the keels) but quite sheltered. Water clarity
is not quite so good, but the anchor dug in well and an Eagle Ray came over to
see what I was doing when I swam over to take a look at it.
Today we'll be going to Porvenir to check in, get
the Zarpe (cruising permit) then get clearance to move on towards Shelter Bay
Marina, near Colon. Tomorrow we'll be off (weather permitting) to a place called
Linton Island, about half-way between here and Colon.
Our 'food planning' worked out quite well, we have
one more pair of frozen 'chicken tits', a few cans of tuna and corned dog,
enough pasta for about one week. Looks like we'll be hitting the supermarkets
soon! AND we drank the last of the beer during sundowners last night, so rum for
a couple of days!
