So, where were we? Ah yes, switch on water pump, very high pressure in the
system, pump stays on when the tap is switched off so the pressure builds
up in the system and the pressure-relief valve 'pops' in the hot water
tank in the engine bay, filling the bay with water (unless you manually
switch the pump off)......I did mention that, didn't I?
No matter, whilst Mike was attempting to locate the second bolt holding
the starter motor in I removed the pump and put in a new pressure switch.
Wired it up, connected it up, switched on the pump and......yup, lots of
pressure pump stayed on and the pressure-relief valve popped.
Pause for thought and muttering.....realise one of the screws in the
solenoid switch housing must be a sort of pressure adjustment screw. Check
the only one it could be, it's screwed in tight, hence the pump can't
switch off. Screw it half way out. Reconnect everything (again, getting
quite quick at this). Switch pump on,system pressures and pump switches
off. Switch on shower tap, enough pressure to blow your socks off (socks?
In the shower? Kinky!). Turn off shower, water pump runs two seconds and
stops. No leaks in the engine compartment. Hurrah, it's bloody nearly
Happy Hour, so I'll have a shower then go ashore for a beer.
Mike located the other bolt holding the starter motor in. He needs to make
up a thin extension arm for the socket as the bolt head is wonderfully
inaccessible (unless you take off the exhaust manifold). Tomorrow morning,
the starter motor will be removed.
Stay tuned folks!!!
