Sunday 7th August – Néa Skioni, Khalkidhiki – Sani Marina, Khalkidhiki

This morning we left Néa Skioni ahead of the Nielson flotilla and came here to Sani Marina, which has been developed as part of a luxury spa resort complex – it’s a small boutique marina with mainly motor boats and not many yachts, which tells you a little about the place.  Technically, before the discount they offer for a stay of more than three nights, it is setting the record for the most expensive marina we have stayed in; however, marinas up here are few and far between and we need somewhere safe to leave Pyxis whilst we make a short trip home.

The entrance channel to the marina is very narrow and shallow, at times we had just 2.5m of water.  Once inside, we were assisted to our berth by a marinaro in a rib and we are tucked up on a finger pontoon that is actually the length of the boat.  Having walked around the complex, we have to admit we wouldn’t mind a week or so here; it is nicely laid out and there are some mouth-watering smells coming from the restaurants.  There are a couple of good beaches and the hotel complex is very smart too, with some rather plush looking suites.

We were lucky to find that coincidently the travel group we have booked our flights with organises holidays at this hotel and has a transfer running from the hotel to the airport tomorrow afternoon for their hotel guests and they have let us book transfers on the coach which should make life a lot simpler.

This afternoon, as we now felt everything was organised, we went to the pool for a swim and then sat on a sun lounger on the beach whilst we dried in the evening sun.

This evening, back at Pyxis, Richard has packed away the dinghy and I have prepared dinner.
