Monday 13th September – Messolonghi

First thing this morning we printed out warnings about the poison and placed them in the shower block and on the gate as there are a lot of dog owners here in the marina.

It was then time to find a final resting place for not-so-lucky Lucky.  We found a suitable spot on the open ground just beyond the marina and managed to extract an approximation of a shovel from the marina.  With some help from Niels on Laerke we were able to lay Lucky to rest.

The marina seems very empty without him today.  A number of people have been by to speak to us about the incident and the children here have been very upset by his death – it has made it a hard day.

Outside the gate, another dog was found dead today, this time a feral one.  The allure of the marina is diminishing – I don’t want to have to wade through dead dogs each time I go to town.

We decided we needed to get out of the marina this evening and walked into town with Kath and Gavin from Blue Elephant.

The town was surprisingly full and busy with people in the bars and restaurants.  In the central square a stage had been erected ready for a performance at 9pm.  We watched the start of the show - there was a band with guitars and balalaikas led by a male vocalist.

We then called in at a bar for a beer with meze before heading back to the marina.
