Saturday 22nd December – Lagos (In search of Brussels)

Today there was a respite from the recent rain – it was hot and sunny, yipee.

Along with everyone else at the marina we headed for the local Saturday market and then the supermarket to stock up ready for Christmas in case the weather closes in again.

Disaster – there were no Brussels sprouts!  It was time to book the next flight home as Richard is extremely passionate about his Brussels sprouts at Christmas.

When we got back we had to take down the foresail as Richard had spotted a hole in it after the recent gales.  We took it down to examine it and luckily it was only the UV protection strip that was torn, but in several places.  Richard made some repairs and we hoisted it again.

We then headed off on the bikes to try one of the other supermarkets for Brussels.  En-route we sought out the local sailmaker but they are now closed for Christmas and the New Year.  Having checked out the supermarket we returned with a duck for Richard for Christmas lunch but no Brussels were to be found.

Just after we had returned and I had started refilling the water tanks, Stephen and Anne turned up with a Christmas present for us – they had walked out to one of the more distant supermarkets and had rustled up a few Brussels sprouts for us, so we cancelled the flight home.

We have had another quiet night in catching up with a few DVDs.
