Saturday 17th April – Messolonghi

Today we had a leisurely breakfast, after all it is the weekend, and caught up on our blog.

Richard then changed the impellor on the engine (something to do with the cooling system) and started her up.  The good news was that the engine fired first time J   We then checked that all was well in both ahead and astern, and fortunately, it was.  Obviously there was still a propeller down there.

After some lunch, Richard felt obliged to venture into the water to check just how furry the prop was and what state the anti-foul was in.  It looks like we might escape a lift this time – the anti-foul just has a light layer of slime and the prop should clean up with a wire brush next time we feel inclined to venture underneath.  As the water was still a little chilly and murky, Richard then headed off for a shower at the new facilities and reported back that they had now been cleaned up after the workmen yesterday, and were back up to my exacting standard (he reckoned).

We then wandered off to the supermarket for some more exercise and to continue restocking.  Whilst getting a good workout on the way back loaded down with trolley and backpacks, we were rescued from further effort by the goodwill of our French neighbour who stopped to give us a lift in his large van.  What a nice man!

This evening, after confirming Richard’s earlier report regarding the cleanliness of the showers, I made a late supper.
