Saturday 10th November – Lagos

Today we took the ‘rubber boats’ to Alvor, 2 miles down the coast from Lagos

The harbour entrance at Lagos was a bit choppy but we thought it would be better once we were outside the harbour.  It wasn’t – we had a bumpy and wet ride the whole way with swell and wind on the nose.  When we arrived at the entrance to Alvor, it was pretty rough too and we were all wet with the waves crashing over the sides of the dinghies – we felt as if we had been swimming.

Once inside, we discovered why it is challenging to reach the anchorage with a yacht; we had arrived at low tide and had trouble finding a path across the sand even with our dinghies.  Once we arrived, the anchorage was lovely with quite a few boats there and a dinghy pontoon where we could land.

We went ashore and had a fabulous lunch at a nearby restaurant with a table in the sun so that we could dry out before walking around the pretty little town.  The food was great – cooked Portuguese style on a barbeque.

On the return trip the swell was behind us and we surfed along merrily having great fun and we were back in fine spirits; we then went aboard Moonshadow to partake of fine spirits before hitting the happy hour at the hotel next door to the marina.

We have promised that we will do some jobs on the boat tomorrow…
