Thursday 24th September – Nisís Trizónia – Galixidhi

After a good night’s sleep we were awake early; the wind was forecast to be light for the first time in days and boats were on the move east in the brief window before the strong easterlies return.  We decided to move on ourselves, and having wished our neighbours farewell as they departed, slipped our lines and motored out too – opting to have breakfast on the way.

Once underway, we motor-sailed most of the way as the wind, though now only F3-4, was still on the nose.  The trip was just under 21nm and we entered the narrow inlet of Galixidhi harbour shortly after midday.  A couple of the boats we met in Trizónia were already here alongside further in.  At first we came alongside the end of the mole, helped in by an ‘old boy’ who directs everyone to a spot, and started tying off.  Two other boats then came in alongside.

Shortly afterwards the ‘harbour-master’ arrived and told everyone that we had to move, the boats couldn’t remain alongside as he was expecting a large flotilla of yachts coming in later after passage through the Corinth Canal and so needed the boats to go stern-to the quay with anchors so as to create more space.  Everyone, caught a bit by surprise, duly slipped their lines and started re-mooring.  We toyed with the idea of moving on to Itea but by chance were able to tuck behind another yacht just behind the mole, so still alongside and much more sheltered than we were before J

The small town is set in a picturesque setting, with pines on the surrounding hillside.  Whilst we were having lunch it started to cloud over and then started to rain.  We caught up with some book and blog whilst the rain went through and then later went off to explore the town.

At the time of writing (9pm and it’s dark), the promised flotilla of yachts has still not arrived!
