Wednesday 23rd April – Gibraltar (The Rock – and St Georges’ Day)

The weather forecast for today was really good and then for a strong easterly wind to kick in on Thursday.  As easterly winds from the Med bring cloud on the Rock we decided that today was the best day for the trip up the Rock and boy did we choose a good day.  The weather was perfect the whole day – just warm enough to be comfortable but not too warm for walking around.

After a brief visit to the chandlers, we walked through the town and then took the cable car to the top of the Rock from where we had stunning views down the Strait, into the Med and over to Africa with just a little haze.  We then took a leisurely walk down the Rock, taking in the sights like St Michael’s Cave and the Siege tunnels and the Moorish castle before heading slowly back to the marina and Pyxis.  Oh yes, mustn’t forget to mention the apes who were cute but worrying when one of the babies became partial to us at the castle.

After a long day we could barely walk by the time we got back to the marina.  Stephen and Anne were on the stern of Wandering Dragon having a sun-downer when we got back and invited us aboard.  We were soon joined by Cath (Blue Elephant) as she wandered past and then Gavin (Blue Elephant) was dragged kicking and screaming over to join us.  The six of us despatched a few bricks of wine before retiring to bed in a haze of alcohol.
