Thursday 13th May – Epidavros

We awoke to cloudy skies which gradually got darker and then we had a shower of rain.  Although only a shower, it was enough to coat the decks with fine red dust L  Fortunately the sun then worked its way out for the rest of the day.

One of the Harbour Police had been around last night inviting all the skippers to take their paperwork to the office so Richard duly set off after breakfast.  He eventually found the office on his second attempt, after stopping to ask directions from one of the locals, and then discovering that the office might be hidden up a flight of stairs just past the chemist.

Whilst trying to find the Port Police, Richard did discover a rather nice fish shop and so we popped in there once he was back and bought a small tuna at a very reasonable price.

Late morning the day’s entertainment started.  A flotilla of around fifteen 45-50 foot yachts started to arrive and began trying to squeeze into this small harbour during the rest of the afternoon, in addition to the normal daily churn of yachts.  The late arrivals ended up on free swinging anchors, littered all over the bay.  They had arranged a party at one of the local hotels here so we had been forewarned of their arrival.

At lunchtime we took the bikes off and Richard repaired the flat rear tyres on both bikes so we had transport again.

Late this afternoon, once we were fairly sure the bike tyres were staying up and the sun was easing, we cycled to the larger out-of-town supermarket.  It was advertised as being 3 km away but it felt more like 3 miles.  After a couple of kilometres we spotted it in the distance – on the other side of the valley and high above us.  We persevered but the last part was so steep I got off and walked.  This did mean an easy ride back downhill with full panniers.

This evening we enjoyed the tuna we had bought earlier; it was reminiscent of being back in Tunisia when we regularly picked up small tuna from the local markets.
