Monday 24th November – Cagliari (Crunch)

We started to do some more jobs aboard Pyxis but unfortunately over lunch I broke a back tooth whilst munching on my cheese and pickle sandwich.  We then spent the afternoon looking for and finding a dentist.

We set off for town with directions that there was a good dentist somewhere near the train station.  Naturally, this was also the time the forecast heavy rain and strong wind arrived.  As we got off the bus in Cagliari the heavens opened for a torrential shower, causing us to seek shelter under a nearby sun awning whilst it blew through.  After a brief search for the dentist we decided to cut our losses and a short visit to the tourist information office soon had us looking in the right place.

Needless to say, we arrived at the dentist surgery somewhat damp and were pleased we had worn our cagoules!  Fortunately after only a short wait I was able to see a dentist.  Unfortunately she looked at the tooth and prescribed major work involving root canal treatment.

Tonight I have temporary filling material on the tooth and an appointment for the morning.  I’m feeling very nervous about tomorrow.

(I should add that, this being Italy, the tunics worn by the dentists and dental nurses are beautifully tailored.)
