Monday 6th August – Tresco, Isles of Scilly

This morning the sun was shining and, rather strangely, at one time was also raining with not a cloud in the sky!  Still, the rain disappeared and it turned into a lovely day.  We caught up with a bit of admin in Tresco in the morning - posting back the regulator, re-filling our jerry cans, and synchronising the laptop on the internet having found an ‘internet café’.

After lunch we decided to continue our exploration of Bryher as the sun was still shining.

We caught up with the yachts on the adjacent buoys as we dinghied over.  Our immediate neighbours are going to try landing their yacht on the beach at Green Bay, Bryher, tomorrow for a few days as they have a lifting keel and friends turning up at the camp site (no more fishing).

We have also met up with a yacht we remembered from Plymouth.  They remember seeing us at Weymouth and Brixham too (they also remember us overtaking them across Lyme Bay).  Unfortunately they have to return to the mainland tomorrow but they have enjoyed their stay too.

We spent a few hours wandering around the south side and visited the ‘Hell Bay Hotel’ that is on the island.  We worked our way northwards up the western edge past Hell Bay itself where the Atlantic ocean dashes at the shore with dramatic effect. We went across onto the wild heathland across the north of the island until we could see over New Grimsby Sound.  We then dropped back down to the pub, Fraggle Rock, where we chatted to a few campers from the camp site and had some dinner.  We have chatted to a number of people on our travels in the Isles of Scilly and I think we are the only ones here who are not regulars.
