Saturday 18th July – Roccella Ionica, Calabria

We were woken up early by some locals going out in their small motor boats for some weekend fishing and by our new neighbour who arrived yesterday – they have a small child that goes into the cockpit around dawn and shouts, waking everyone up, and a small baby with a healthy pair of lungs that joins in with the chorus once it is awake.  To think we were worried about the sound of our generator in the afternoon when topping up our batteries.

As we were awake, Richard went off to the supermarket early to get a few bits and pieces before the high wind, forecast for the afternoon, got up.  The wind arrived early and by the time he returned, we already had a steady 20 knots in the marina with gusts over 30 knots.  Our sun shade held on thankfully.

Later this afternoon Richard took the bikes off Pyxis and attended to the tyres that are flat.  Each bike has one tyre that is staying up OK but the inner tubes have perished on the others.  As we had one spare inner tube we now have one bike that is fully working, we will need to find a bike shop for another inner tube next time we are in town.

The wind continued all afternoon and late evening; it was a warm wind but did keep us a little cooler.
