Sunday 11th May – Ceuta

This morning we took the local bus to Parque de San Amaro.  We then walked through the park, up the predictable steep hill, towards the large fort on Monte Hacho.

We walked up as far as the Ermita de San Antonio (hermitage).  The viewing point beside it gave spectacular panoramic views across Ceuta towards the mountains and Morocco in the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north, south and east.

We didn’t carry on right to the fort as it was going to still be quite a trek;  the views were great where we were and we had found out from Tourist Information the previous day that the fort itself was not open to visitors but that one could only walk around the outside.

We then discovered that all the restaurants and bars were closed at the top, so we walked back down the hill just in time for the bus into town.  Back in town we found a café on the front and had a pleasant drink and a sandwich in the sunshine.

Early evening we had a pontoon party with Moonshadow – we had lots of meat and fish which Peter cooked on his grill, and Carola and I created salads, potatoes and cous cous.  It was all delicious and we were all very full.  The evening wound down with a few liqueurs - for medicinal purposes, of course.
