Sunday 30th – Koiládhia (Koilas) – Monemvasia

We were woken at 5.30am by a small fishing boat which was drifting just off our bow, with two people chatting merrily.  They then started their engine to go and fish somewhere else and they were so close that I could hear the bubbles from their outboard under the hull.

We tried to get back to sleep but then at 6am a large fishing boat went past close by sending a large swell across us – we were clearly not meant to sleep in.

We got up, raised the dinghy on the transom, and left at 7am into a totally calm and windless morning.  We motored along to charge the batteries and then we started the water maker as we were still pretty low on water.  We expected the wind to switch on around 11.30am as it has every other day that we have been in this area; however, today the sea stayed flat, the visibility hazy and no wind, not even a whisper appeared all day.

We motored for 9 hours before arriving here at Monemvasia, with full water tanks, re-charged batteries and the washing done (but needing to top up on diesel).

We came into the harbour and found it smaller and fuller than hoped for, but we have managed to shoe-horn ourselves in alongside between a French yacht we have seen somewhere else and a fishing boat.  It is nice to be alongside again though as it is easy to get ashore.  We went for a short walk around the immediate area but came back to Pyxis as we will explore tomorrow.  On our way around the harbour we spotted a turtle swimming in the depths but once again a bit camera shy.

Tonight a small German yacht has arrived and found us the only welcoming faces and they are rafted beside us.
