Thursday 12th March – Cagliari (Excalibur)

This morning we asked if a diver could be found to try to locate Richard’s lost glasses.  The marina made phone calls but announced that one would not be available until Saturday.  With the silt in the marina we thought that this was particularly bad news in terms of the chance of being able to find them again.

The weather was bright and sunny and the wind now light; the water in the marina had cleared a bit, so Richard decided to take another look himself and donned his wetsuit.

David lent him some diving weights and armed with these and some fins he went diving.  By now quite a few people knew about the problem and gathered round.  As we were all chatting whilst Richard was swimming around, we noticed that Richard was going a bit off course.  I was concerned as he looked like he was heading for the wall.  Instead, he came up holding his glasses aloft like Excalibur and the Lady of the Lake.  We felt extremely lucky to have found them.

Whilst togged up in his wetsuit he then came back to Pyxis and checked under Pyxis to see what state the prop and anti-foul were in.  The prop has quite a bit of growth on it and as he came back to the surface he managed to head butt a barnacle that was attached to the bottom of the boat so he now has a small graze on his head – this required immediate attention with Betadine given the state of the water here.

After some lunch I painted and Richard did some repairs on the bikes, changing an inner tube on one tyre and replacing some of the brake parts which have seized with rust.

This evening we went with Cape and Wandering Dragon to the pizza restaurant at the top of the hill (this time it was open) and had the usual great pizza.  Afterwards we came back and chatted in the gazebo and then I had a glass of wine with Stephen and Anne before going back to Pyxis.
