Friday 7th August – Varko Bay, Greece - Vlikho, Levkas

This morning we enjoyed a peaceful breakfast in Varko Bay and then motored round the corner to Vounaki, only a short distance way.  This was the first Sunsail base that we visited many years ago when it first opened and so we wanted a nostalgic look around.

On the way in I radioed ahead and asked if it would be OK to visit and they were very friendly and said to come alongside anywhere we liked in the marina – it being whilst the Sunsail flotillas were away it was not a problem for space.

Once alongside, on an empty dock, we wandered around the much busier shore base and realised how much it had grown in the years since we visited.  Still it was good to see and all the staff remain as friendly as ever.

After an hour we were off again and, as there was now some wind, we pulled out the sails and enjoyed a good sail all the way back across to Vlikho Bay where we had arranged to meet up with Otwin and Rosi and their Swedish friends, for dinner ashore at the Vlikho Yacht Club.

This evening we had a great meal at the Yacht Club, though not at all Greek (it was burger and chips for all – fish burger for me).  We all had a good time and were quite entertained for a while on the way back at having to find our respective boats by dinghy in the dark in a bay full of yachts.
