Monday 6th April – Cagliari (Sea trials: Poetto Beach)

The weather was forecast to be quiet and sunny today, so we decided to take Pyxis out for a sail and check everything was OK after being out of the water.  Cape joined us as they wanted to anchor up and have a look at the bottom of their boat and see how much growth had accumulated over the winter.  So mid-morning both boats slipped their lines and headed out into the bay and around to Poetto Beach for lunch.

We had a gentle sail to the anchorage with force 3 on the stern – a genoa run for us.  We were amazed to find that Pyxis was sailing along quite fast in the light winds – the shiny bottom and flat sea really helped.

Once at anchor, Richard swam across to help Cape dive and scrape the worst of the growth from the bottom of their boat whilst I painted on deck.  The sea is quite cold at the moment so everyone was kitted up in full wet suits – lucky for me we have only one set of weights!

After some lunch we headed back to Cagliari.  The wind had gone right around to the opposite direction but was still light; nevertheless we were really trucking along as we sailed back.  When were all safely moored up once again, Richard helped Gert with his lines as his boat was towed to the harbour wall and back to have its engine lifted out, and then we had a brief celebratory beverage aboard Cape before retiring back to Pyxis for a shower and dinner.

This evening we had drinks aboard Pyxis and played quiz games.
