Wednesday 16th January – Vilamoura (Quarteira)

The forecast for today was not too great but when we got up the weather was surprisingly good.

The German couple opposite us stopped by as we were having breakfast in the cockpit enclosure to say that today there was an outdoor market in Quarteira, the town adjacent to Vilamoura.

So we got on our bikes and cycled over – about a 10 to 15 minutes cycle ride.  We went to the fish market and then to the indoor fruit market en route to the outdoor market; I stocked up on my current favourites - sea bass and dorado.

At the outdoor market there were local people selling their own produce, mainly fruit and vegetables - so we are now long on onions, cauliflower, oranges and carrots; however, I found a lady selling her home made goats cheese so I’ve brought some of that to try.

After lunch we ventured out again in search of meat for Richard and tried the slightly larger supermarket just out of Vilamoura; success – Richard is now sorted for the next day or two with some turkey.

Back at the boat I’ve been baking bread again as the first lot has run out whilst Richard has been taking everything out of the aft cabin and outside lazerette to see what we can do to improve stowage (and remind ourselves what we brought with us).
