Thursday 22nd November – Lagos (Portimão)

Today we decided to give our new bikes a test drive and went to Portimão, 18km by road along the coast.  Considering how long it is since I’ve ridden a bike, I’m not sure it was wise to go so far so soon; I made it – just - though we opted for the train back.

On the way we called at the ‘out of town’ stores just outside Lagos and then again just outside Portimão (a chance for a rest); the stores are all the same as those you get in UK; DIY, home furnishings, etc.

In Portimão, we cycled along the front and then back to the train station through the main town centre; we caught the train back to Lagos and discovered it is much cheaper than the bus, although a bit further out of town than the bus station in Portimão.

My bottom has just about survived but I think I need a bit more practice cycling, and certainly need more practice at staying on the correct side of the road – it’s a lot easier to remember when you are in a car because the steering wheel is on the other side – on a bike, there is no clue until you see the cars coming for you!
