Tuesday 12th August – Cala de Santa Ponsa, Mallorca (The Glorious Twelfth)

Overnight we started getting swell in the bay making life a bit uncomfortable.  This time it was real swell coming in from the west rather than that generated by the motor-boats and it has continued all day.

Unfortunately other than going into a marina (very expensive) or around the other side of the island there was little we could do to get away from it.  Also, tomorrow the swell is forecast to swing around and come from the north east so we will be back in the lee of the island again and sheltered from it.

We had a quiet day cleaning Pyxis, Richard continued with his book, and I started on my second nouveau style mossie net.

Given the swell, if the three boats were to meet up today we decided it had better be ashore otherwise glasses and plates were going to end up on the floor or overboard.  Early evening we went ashore at the nearby marina and all had a drink sitting on the patio outside the bar there.

Afterwards, as it was our wedding anniversary, we went on for dinner with Peter and Carola.  This time we explored the marina side of the bay to look for a restaurant, walking in towards town from the marina as we didn’t fancy landing the dinghy on the other side of the bay in the swell.

We found an interesting looking restaurant down some steps from the road and decided to give it a try.  The place looked quite big on arrival and had a great terrace where we sat and had a beautiful view over the bay; we could see Pyxis and Moonshadow from the table as we enjoyed the sunset.

Having ordered, we waited and waited but our food still didn’t arrive (oh dear, Peter eats late again L).  I went into the restaurant to the facilities and noticed that it was in fact a small family run affair with the owner, who clearly liked his food, serving everyone, and what looked like his wife in the kitchen.

Eventually the food did arrive and we all agreed that it was worth the wait; good quality and lots of it.  There was a Spanish family on the table next to us and it was obviously not their first visit so we felt we had made a good choice after all.

Having gone out early we arrived back at Pyxis after midnight.
