Thursday 20th November – Cagliari (Cranes, Slings and Pizza)

This morning Mascot3 was hauled out of the marina and onto the hard.  We watched this large yacht (46ft) being lifted out by the marina’s new crane – it was quite nerve racking for Lon and Lynn watching their boat swinging in the slings as the crane moved across the road to the hard.  Fortunately all went well, the marina staff are extremely particular and careful, and Mascot3 is now comfortably sitting on the transporter. There are some strong winds due, starting tomorrow and so there was a conveyor belt of boats coming out of the water today.

This afternoon Richard and I went for our first bike ride in Sardinia to the supermarket – it was fine, we managed to dodge the traffic, but my bike still needs a bit of loosening up so Richard took my bike and I tried his (the good news for me was this meant that Richard had to ride back with the shopping as the panniers only fit my bike J). Unfortunately Richard managed to sneak in a visit to the chandlery on the way back; the good news is he didn’t manage to buy anything.

This evening we went out to a nearby restaurant (the one that was closed last time we tried it) for pizza with Wandering Dragon and Mascot3.  The service was very impressive, the pizzas were delivered to the table before we knew it – we had only just sorted the wine and water!  Even better the pizzas were great - it took us a quite a long time to eat them as they were also rather large!  The restaurant was very popular with locals – quickly filling up after we arrived, and with people waiting to be seated by the time we left.

Very replete, we wandered back down the hill to the marina and stopped for a final drink at the bar before heading back to Pyxis and bed.
