Friday 9th July – Órmos Navarínou, Peloponnese

Today the wind eased and so, after picking up a few fresh provisions in town, we moved out of the marina and to the far anchorage off the beach at the top of the bay.  There are only four yachts up here, spread out from each other at great distances– after the crowded harbour it is really nice to ‘get away from it all’.

This afternoon we have relaxed on board, enjoying a bit of cloud cover which has given some natural sunscreen.  Late afternoon we took the dinghy to shore, dragged it up the beach and went for a walk to look at Gialova lagoon just the other side of the road along the beach.

The brackish water lagoon is connected to the bay by a narrow channel with a bridge across it, we were told we might find terrapins by the bridge but sadly there were none in sight.  The lagoon is a protected site with nature walks and hides for bird-watching.

We walked back along the beach, past the one taverna up this end of the beach, relaunched the dinghy and came back to Pyxis

There was a beautiful sunset this evening and tonight it is very black outside and very quiet.
