Sunday 15th May – Loutra, Kithnos - Mykonos

We enjoyed a quiet night and we were up and off this morning for a long trip east.

Although forecast to be very quiet near Kithnos, we were expecting a northerly F3-4 as we headed further east but it didn’t really appear; we had a short sail around the top of Siros where the wind built to the expected F3-F4 but it disappeared again as we rounded the point, and again nearing Mykonos we managed a short sail as we crossed the straight between Tinos and Mykonos, probably both land effects.  For the rest of the time we had to motor.

There was little traffic out on the water today – just the odd yacht in the distance and one or two ships or ferries.

We arrived here in Mykonos late afternoon and berthed stern-to the harbour wall in the marina (Mykonos New Harbour).  We were surprised to see the small German boat that we keep bumping into already here; they had sailed across from Siros this morning, and came to help us with our lines.

We had a short walk around the harbour, which is just a mass of concrete a mile out of town, where the ferries and cruise ships dock – it’s not pretty, but the view up the hillside from here is.  We didn’t fancy the hike into town after our long journey so we settled down to an early dinner; we will explore tomorrow.
