Monday 11th February – Ilha da Culatra

This morning, after eventually putting his book down (probably because he’d finished the pot of coffee), Richard topped up the main fuel tank from a couple of spare cans, providing me the perfect excuse to stop work on the tablecloth for the day (I was required to hold the funnel).

This afternoon we took the dinghy ashore to Ponte Cais for some more supplies.  When we arrived, the shops were still closed for lunch so we walked through the small village and out along the boardwalk which takes you across the sand dunes to the Atlantic coast.  It was a pleasant stroll giving us a chance to stretch our legs after being on the boat for so long.

When we reached the beach on the far side, the surf was definitely up and so we were pleased to be at anchor in the shelter of the lagoon.  Further down the coast we could see the surf hitting the wall of the harbour entrance and the spray raising high into the air.

On the way back we shopped in a couple of the little stores, which are actually very well stocked for a small island.

Back on the boat I managed to squeeze in a bit of fishing (no fish though) whilst we generated some more water – some of which we promptly used for a great hot shower J
