Saturday 1st May – Messolonghi - Trizónia

This morning it was a beautiful day and we decided to join the mass exodus and left marina at around 9.30am in glorious sunshine.

Looking at the weather forecast for the next week, we have deferred our plan to head off south around the Peloponnese as there is a depression due mid week, with gale force winds, which would coincide with our arrival, and looks set to hang around with strong winds.  So instead we headed East into the Gulf of Corinth and have arrived late this afternoon at Trizónia.

We left Messolonghi at the same time as Pam and Andy on Grand Slam and have travelled in convoy with them.  The journey was similar to our last passage this way.  We motored in flat sea with no wind until we passed under the large suspension bridge at Ríon.  The wind then quickly picked up to F5-6 from astern and we had a lively passage the rest of the way, running on the genoa.

Having berthed in a F5, we settled in with a much needed beer, and Pam and Andy; then, another couple Stuart and Jane, arrived from Messolonghi, joined us for a beer and we all went into the little village for some food.  In the taverna, Andy’s request for his pork chop to come with a fried egg on top caused the waiter to question his grasp of English (which was actually really good) as he was sent back out from the kitchen to check.

Tired and late we retired to bed…
