Tuesday 29th July – Sant Elm, Mallorca – Cala de Santa Ponsa, Mallorca

Today we said goodbye to Sant Elm and took the short trip to Cala de Santa Ponsa.  On the way we motored in light airs and replenished one of the water tanks with the water-maker.

When we arrived, we quickly spotted Wandering Dragon (who had arrived from Formentor last night) and anchored in front of them at a safe distance; they didn’t spot us until Richard had gone into the water to check the position of our anchor.  It’s quite good now with the clear water as we can check the anchor setting by simply swimming out with a face mask – not so much of a requirement for the anchor alarm.

We went to say ‘hello’ and Anne said she would join us on our excursion ashore to check out Santa Ponsa.  We started with the marina where Richard found a chandlery and, more importantly, found the fuel connector to the engine for the external tank on the dinghy he has been looking for.

We chatted to the owner of the chandlery (who was from Cheshire) and then took his advice on where to take the dinghy for getting to the town (it would have been quite a walk from the marina).

We had a fairly long walk around the town – Anne had forgotten how thorough Richard is when exploring!  The town is very touristy and very English, much of the rest of Mallorca has been German; when looking for the Post Office I asked a number of people for directions and the only one who was not English was the lady behind the counter when we finally arrived at the Post Office.

This evening we had drinks aboard Pyxis with both Wandering Dragon and Moonshadow.  Pleased to say that Wandering Dragon have decided to stay on tomorrow so that we can catch up with them tomorrow (they are on a mission to get to Sardinia) … we hope that Yoyo and Koshka concur.
