Today it was time to move on…

From the forecast we had expected reasonable seas for our trip around Cabo de Formentor, but the forecast omitted the lumpy swell from the NE which was 2m at times and not particularly pleasant, but at least the sun was out.

We motored on to this beautiful bay in Cala de la Calobra and anchored off the small beach.  The view was particularly spectacular with sheer cliffs through which the Torrente de Pareis enters the sea, though at the moment the stream is dry. The Torrente de Pareis is a noted highlight of the island with visitors arriving by sea and land. There are two bays within the cala linked by a tunnel through the rock – the other bay is more developed with a few restaurants and the landing stage for the tourist boats.

Early evening, as the small beach cleared, we took the dinghy ashore (‘wet landing’ on the beach) with our BBQ and picnic rucksack and had a very pleasant BBQ.  Afterwards we watched a wonderful sunset before coming back to the boat.  The return proved a bit more of a challenge as the swell had worked its way round into the cala and made launching the dinghy off the beach into the waves a little wetter than the landing !

Unfortunately it’s now feeling like an uncomfortable night ahead – although the swell is reducing, what little wind we have has swung us around across the swell and is causing us, and the neighbouring boats, to rock quite a bit.
