Thursday 5th August – Messolonghi

The small island south of the marina, which forms the west bank of the main canal, was our destination for exploring today.

We took the dinghy and headed past the chain ferry up the small offshoot to the canal towards the lagoon at the far end.  Just before the lagoon, we went ashore on the island near the narrow isthmus separating the lagoon from the sea.  We dragged the dinghy up onto the shore and then took the path around to the west side of the island.

After walking for a while we found a pleasant spot to sit on the shore, looking out across the shallows; as the crow flies we weren’t far from the marina, we could just about hear the bulldozer working in the distance.  We erected a sun umbrella and sunbathed for a while until thoroughly cooked - not a soul came by all the time we were there, we had the place to ourselves.

The sea there was shallow and weedy so we didn’t fancy a dip so we came back to the marina for a cool shower.  This evening we have relaxed on board after a hard day J.
