Tuesday 13th July – Kiparissia, Peloponnese

Today we went to the nearby beach; we cycled along the coast until the road ran out (by the camp site, which has only a few caravans and camper vans in it), found a place to leave the bikes and then walked along a couple of bays to the end of a long, sandy beach and found a lovely spot screened off by rocks, to sit and sunbath and swim.  It was like having our own private beach – not that there were many people around anyway.

We have been told that turtles have once again started to use this area to lay their eggs and the locals mark any nests they know about by placing a circle of bamboo sticks around it so that everyone knows where it is.  On our walk along the beach we passed once circle of bamboo sticks in the sand – we didn’t investigate, simply kept clear.

Late this afternoon the fishing boat behind us went out – he said he will be back tomorrow lunchtime so we will keep an eye on his spot for him.

We had only one yacht arrive this afternoon, however, when it came in it came in with its main sail still up and promptly anchored in the middle of the harbour, still under sail.  It then became apparent that it had got its mainsail jammed as the next thing was that the skipper was being hoisted to the top of the mast by his wife.  Fortunately he was quickly able to drop the sail and a little later they came in alongside in front of us.

This evening we went for pre-dinner drinks aboard Joshua as they are leaving for pastures new tomorrow.
