Saturday 19th September – Nisís Trizónia

In the early hours Richard awoke, feeling we were not alone.  Sure enough as he walked into the saloon one of the local (and rather pampered) pussy cats hastily scooted back up the stairs down which it had just entered, off the boat and down the mole at speed; it could then be seen in the distance trying its luck boarding one of the other boats.  With the wash boards in place and the hatch shut, we went back to sleep.

When we got up there was no wind and all was still and very quiet in the marina.  The marina was built some time ago but has never been adopted so while usable it also has the attraction of being free but lacking any facilities or electricity.

After breakfast we set off to explore this small island.  First of all we walked around the harbour to the end breakwater, and then wandered into the tiny village.  There are a couple of small hotels, a few tavernas, a tiny mini-market, a pretty church and some housing around a small bay.

I noticed balloons set up around the church, remembered it was Saturday and said to Richard that it could be another Greek wedding.  Sure enough, when we went in later this evening, the guests, bride and groom were assembling for a traditional Greek wedding.

After wandering around the village we came back for some water and then went up the hill in the other direction discovering an unmade road winding up into the hills, past a now closed yacht club, and over towards the other side of the island.  There were some black clouds looming so we abandoned the adventure for today and went back for lunch.

After lunch we had some light rain and some strong wind; we put the sides down on the cockpit enclosure and read for a while.  A couple of boats arrived during the strong winds and had rather a difficult time berthing.

This evening we went into town to check out the theory that there was a wedding on and saw the ferry bringing the guests across from the mainland.  Tonight over dinner we have enjoyed a small firework display after the wedding and we expect to be entertained into the night with traditional Greek music.
