Wednesday 19th September – Baiona

A quiet morning after the night before.  The weather is looking good for moving on tomorrow so we have re-fuelled and started preparations for departure.

This afternoon, a UK boat arrived with a solo sailor, so I wandered down the pontoon to offer assistance.  He was just coming in off anchor and another yachtsman he knew, also on anchor, had come in to help.  We were invited to drinks and popped in on our way to the supermarket.  The two of them were retired chaps and so experienced that they made me feel like an amateur (they have been all over the world, to places I haven’t even heard of).

I pointed out our yacht and said ‘next to the wooden one’ (our German friends).  These two then gave me a history of the designers of the yacht (a Taiana) and the other yacht from the same stable (a Hans Christian).  When Andy came back from his friends on anchor, he came round for a drink and shared some of his sailing experiences with us and also gave me some very sound advice for our journey.

A late night once again, but very enjoyable.
