Saturday 13th October – Lagos

Up early today (8.30am) and off to the Saturday market we’d been told about.  It was great – lots of locals selling their own produce.  The fresh fruit and vegetables were irresistible and it was interesting to see the fresh meat (live quails and rabbits) and when we the saw some kittens we just hoped they too weren’t for the pot (we don’t think they were).

We then went for a walk into town.  On the way back we only just resisted the lure of a pint of Guinness at the English bar.

After lunch Richard finally let me cut his hair; it was getting rather long but not having had much practice with scissors, I attacked it with the beard trimmer he’s brought along, set on the maximum length setting (I gave him some beer as anaesthetic first – I think he was hoping for something stronger).  It looks just fine – though next time I’ll take a bit more off.

We even managed half-an-hour of sunbathing on the deck this afternoon, and we each started on a book.  However it was soon time for a shower and cooking dinner (sea bass for me and some ribs for Richard).

This evening, in the background, we can hear the occasional loud cheer from the nearby bars; we think there must be some sport thingy happening on satellite TV.
