Saturday 26th June – Khania, Crete

Today was still on the windy side but this morning we managed a walk around the harbour to the lighthouse.  We saw one of the yachts leaving and I was pleased not to be on it as it rolled around in the swell.

When we arrived back at Pyxis after a walk through town, the yacht was coming back into the harbour.  I went out to see if I could help and spotted another yacht had also arrived at the same time; I stopped to help it in and luckily all the skippers from the other yachts emerged and helped - it was being spun sideways across the berth in the strong cross wind (this is par for the course at the moment) so it was all hands on deck to help it in.

We were then all able to go and help the original yacht back into her berth (she had been circling whilst we helped the first yacht).  It is really refreshing to see how we all pitch in - everyone is very quick to help.  The wind is on the beam and it would be really difficult for a yacht to berth bow/ stern-to without assistance.

This evening when the pirate ship (one of the tripper boats) came back alongside, the skipper stopped on his way home past Pyxis and insisted on us having some wine.  Admittedly I have complemented him on his parking skills in the past, deservedly I assure you, and we do make sure no-one takes his space during the day (but he wouldn’t know that); so, we’re not sure why he did it and when I asked him on board to join us for a drink, he said maybe tomorrow, he needed to get home – the people here are just really friendly.
