Thursday 9th September – Póros, Kefalonia

Late morning we walked the short distance to a small bay beside the nearby headland.  It was a picturesque spot looking out onto a small islet that wasn’t much more than a large rock.

The water was very shallow and clear and we went swimming to cool off; on the beach we were sheltered from the hot sun by the large canopy formed by the trees lining the hillside.  On our return we hosed ourselves down on the quay and dried in the sun before lunch.

During the afternoon the breeze got up and became quite fresh.  It sent waves running in towards the ferry quay, causing some surge in the harbour itself.  We stayed with the boat to ensure that conditions didn’t deteriorate.  Arriving boats had quite a challenge mooring up with the strong cross wind.

This evening, once the afternoon wind and surge had eased, we went ashore to the taverna that we visited last night and had dinner overlooking the sea – it was a really lovely evening and we finished off with a game of cribbage on our return.
