Tuesday 25th – Koiládhia (Koilas) – Khäidhari (Dhrepano Vivari)

We left after breakfast as a slight breeze started to ripple the anchorage, heading out around the other side of Nisos Koiládhia, the small island in the entrance which is privately owned by a ship owner – not a bad place to own, complete with large motor yacht in its own harbour.

Out in the bay there was no wind at all and so it was a case of motoring on.  Having charged the batteries for an hour we decided to commission the watermaker.  Having put in the new filters last night we now needed to flush out the pickling solution which has protected the membrane over the winter.  We ran it for half an hour and the water produced was ready to drink.

By now, the sea breeze was kicking in and so it was off with the motor and a gentle genoa run the rest of the way to Órmas Dhrepano, a long narrow inlet with the small village of Khäidhari at the end.  Near the entrance are the ruins of an old Venetian fort, and beyond the bay is a shallow lagoon.

We have anchored off the village in about 11m of water.  When we arrived there was only one other yacht at anchor, apart from the empty boats on permanent moorings.  During the afternoon the anchorage has filled up; OK, two boats have come in late evening, so it is pretty quiet here tonight – apart from a few local fishermen going in and out.
