Sunday 19th April – Bizerte, Tunisia

A fabulous hot and sunny day in Bizerte

We were up early after a good night's sleep, and as we found out later, even earlier as the time difference in Tunisia is an hour earlier.  We used some of the strawberries we got in the market yesterday to make some fruit salad for breakfast, sitting up in the cockpit.  Richard and Otwin went to the harbour office to check out the weather forecast, the chances of getting any electricity on the pontoon, and the availability of gaz.

Then, to commemorate being up so early, we went for a walk around some of the lesser known parts of Bizerte;  we found the bus station and the train station.  We then checked out the only supermarket in town and then, irresistibly, went back to explore the colourful market again.

We visited the bread shop where we had bought a baguette yesterday (around 10p) to find they had sold out today so we splurged (ok, only 20p) on a larger brown baguette straight out of the oven which has been very good – my bread maker is unlikely to get used here.

We went back to the fish market and I found a different fish to try and then we headed back to the boat for lunch.

This afternoon we have both relaxed.  Richard managed to sort out a second bow line – for some reason our second lazy line is doubled up on the one next door.  We have both managed to fall asleep during the afternoon.

This evening Rosi and Otwin popped over for a sundowner as we enjoyed the last of the heat from the sun.
