Thursday 18th June – On Passage – Isola Panarea

This morning after breakfast we went ashore for a final goodbye to Isola Vulcano and to pick up a few provisions.  We then set off for Isola Panarea, another of the islands, where we planned to anchor for lunch.

We anchored off the town of Scalo Ditella (San Pietro) and enjoyed lunch amongst a couple of very large yachts that had also chosen Panarea for lunch.

Whilst having lunch we were distracted for a few minutes by the site of a large rib drifting down through the anchorage; it had obviously broken free of its mooring.  Whilst looking to see if there were any boats nearby which could go and rescue it, we then spotted its owner swimming swiftly along behind it.  Fortunately he managed to catch up with it and get on board and then head back home with it.

A catamaran that came in and anchored just ahead of us also provided some entertainment.  Their anchor was dragging slightly and gradually they drifted back past us, seemingly unconcerned.  Fortunately, not far beyond us, it finally snagged and they stayed put the rest of the afternoon.

The anchorage was quite rolly at times due to the wash of the ferries passing by.  We spent the afternoon at anchor and set of early evening for the next stage of our journey.
