Friday 10th June – Çanakkale, Turkey

Fortunately the concert ended at a reasonable hour and we were able to catch up on some sleep; we woke this morning feeling more refreshed than we have for a while.

After breakfast I went to the market with Jackie from Arwen and Diana from Zephyr, a South African yacht also berthed here, and topped up with fresh vegetables; Jackie is a mine of information having been in Turkey a while and I now know which supermarkets to look out for.

Throughout the morning it has been cloudy and a strong thunderstorm has been passing through – giving heavy showers at times.

When we got back, Jackie came round for coffee and brought her pilot book with her and showed us the places they have been and can recommend, so we have information on the marinas and anchorages further on up the Dardanelles all the way to Istanbul.

We were planning to leave here for a 20 mile trip to an anchorage further up the Dardanelles this afternoon after the rain and thunderstorms had cleared through and the wind had gone around.  However this has taken longer than hoped and so we have decided to stay an extra night here.

This evening Jackie and Rob came for a drink and we were able to spend a bit more time catching up with them.  They are heading to the Peloponnese later this year so we were able to return the compliment and give them some information on the stopping off places there.  Afterwards, both boats grabbed a take-away pizza before turning in.

Tonight there has been a little more rain and a few rumbles of thunder.
