Wednesday 26th – Khäidhari (Dhrepano Vivari) – Navplion

This morning we woke fairly early after a very quiet night here in the anchorage.  We had a wonderful view over breakfast and then set off around 9.30am.

It was a still morning and so we motored the short hop around to Navplion, arriving around 11.30.  On route we went via the narrow strait at Toló, a small fishing village which has developed into quite a big tourist resort.

Just as we turned the corner into the large harbour at Navplion, the sea breeze filled in and it was blowing quite strongly as we came in to berth.  Although expecting to berth stern-to on the anchor, we had heard from Pam and Andy on Grand Slam that the yachts were being put alongside, and so, with the wind on the nose, it was a straight forward ‘ferry-glide’ manoeuvre to get alongside this extremely large commercial quay.  The Danish yacht ahead of us helped with our lines and then gave me the good news that there was a Lidl.

I went in search of a bakery for bread for lunch and instead bumped into Pam and Andy on their way to Carrefour.  Well, that meant that, after lunch, we were to spend the rest of the day visiting the various supermarkets and stocking up on basics.

Navplion is very touristy, there are many coaches and camper vans alongside the docks, but the town looks quite scenic, we hope to explore more tomorrow.  For a brief time it was the capital of Greece before Athens was chosen.

This evening we have had drinks with Pam and Andy making plans for tomorrow.

Tonight a large motor yacht has come in behind us from Piraeus with a complement of American tourists.  We are able to eat up on deck illuminated by its lights.  A mobile crane has arrived to replace two of its lifeboats to provide some further entertainment.
