Sunday 23rd August – Messolonghi (Mesolóngion) – Órmas Marathia

Around lunchtime we said goodbye to everyone in Messolonghi and Cape and Pyxis set off back towards the Ionion islands (Enya will continue east into Patraikos Kólpos).  The sun was melting hot again and although there was a little wind in the marina, once we exited the canal, there was not enough to sail.  We motored along enjoying the scenery; I saw some very big jelly fish too.

As we were motoring along I saw some dolphins ahead and as we got closer they were not moving out of our way.  As we approached, we put the engine in neutral so we could take a good look in case there was a problem and we drifted past them; they were fine, just relaxing and they played around our bows for a short time as we drifted past.  The water was so clear we could see them diving and swimming 2-3 metres under the water as well as when they were at the surface – as we were barely moving, we felt really close to them.

Tonight we have found a quiet bay tucked in behind Ák Tourkovigla, with clear water for swimming and not too many boats around.  It is a very peaceful night.
