Sunday 16th August – Órmos Abelike, Meganisi - Port Kastos, Nísos Kastos

Today after breakfast, Star Dance waved cheerio as they headed off towards Sívota and then Pyxis and Cape set off together for the short hop to Kastos.

We managed to sail for about three minutes en route as we passed Kálamos but there was very little wind most of the time and we had to motor.

However, in the last two miles from the corner of Kastos to the harbour the wind suddenly built and by the time we arrived we had 18-19 knots of wind in the harbour.  The town quay was full but luckily for us, the small breakwater on the other side of the entrance was unoccupied and so Cape went alongside and we rafted on Cape.  With the strong NE wind we probably had the best spot in the harbour, sheltered from the fetch rolling in through the harbour entrance.

Fortunately the wind gradually eased and shifted NW.  We had a lovely afternoon swimming by the boats and decided to have a BBQ on the breakwater in the evening.

Early evening more boats started to arrive and continued arriving.  By the time we started our BBQ the whole harbour was completely full and there were a dozen or so yachts with their anchors down just outside the harbour entrance – it was total mayhem, we just don’t know where they all came from.

Still, we had a great BBQ, with music courtesy of Cape’s cockpit speakers, and we ate and drank very late into the night. We were pleased to be moored where we were as we had the breakwater virtually to ourselves.
