Tuesday 4th August – Spartachori (Port Spiglia), Meganisi – Vlikho, Levkas

This morning before breakfast I stripped the bed and put the linen in to soak.  After breakfast, with all the washing done and the tanks topped up again, we said goodbye to Spartachori and set off.

We were in need of meat and fish and a few other odds and ends, so we headed across to Levkas where we expected to be able to stock up in Nidri, it being a much larger town.

Rather than anchor in the busy Tranquil Bay opposite Nidri, we carried on a little further into Órmos Vlikho, an oval landlocked bay, and anchored.  The setting here in Órmos Vlikho is lovely with the hills around it, with a few houses and water front tavernas (each with dinghy docks) spread around the east of the bay, and Vlikho itself, a small village, on the west of the bay.  The anchorage is huge and shallow enough to anchor just about anywhere which means that quite a few yachts can be here without it seeming too busy.

We arrived early afternoon and so I put my laundry out to dry whilst we had lunch.  It was dry and back on the bed by 3.30pm but with the blistering heat we didn’t want to go up to Nidri until later in the afternoon when things had cooled a bit.

Late afternoon we went up to Nidri by dinghy, not very far, and did some shopping.  Nidri is a busy resort; it has quite a large tourist population and consequently self catering apartments around, so there are several supermarkets together with a butcher and a fishmonger (who unfortunately had closed for the day).  To Richard’s delight there were also some chandleries to explore.

We came back to Pyxis to see that today is ‘Sailing Holiday’ flotilla day in Vlikho and we have now got around 15 yachts moored just inside us towards the shore.  The rest of the bay has also filled up a bit with boats for the night.

Due to the wind direction, we still have a superb view from the cockpit and have enjoyed a relaxed and quiet evening on deck.
