Thursday 5th March – Cagliari (Rain, wind, hail and thunder)

This morning we were woken early by the first of the squalls buffeting the boat - the wind gusting to over 40 knots and the rain pouring down.  Throughout the morning more squalls came through with the boat rocking and rolling on its moorings as a short, steep fetch worked its way into the marina in the worst of the winds.  With the wind on the beam at times the fenders had their work cut out against the boats either side.  Just for good measure the rain gave way to hail from time to time.

This afternoon when the worst of the rocking and rolling subsided and the sun came out I did some more painting sitting in the cockpit enclosure.  At times it was actually quite warm and pleasant with blue skies, sun and no wind.  However, the next black cloud would then arrive bringing more rain and the occasional roll of thunder.

Mid afternoon Anne and Stephen popped round for a cup of tea, armed with delicious ginger cake fresh and still warm from the oven.  Later, their departure was delayed somewhat by yet another band of rain, just for good measure.

This evening all is very quiet but unfortunately the forecast is due to pick up again by the morning and we’ll be rolling around on our perches again L
