Wednesday 25th February – Cagliari (Outboard maintenance)

For me it was a fine day for washing, with both sun and a fresh, if somewhat cool, breeze - though the odd black cloud scudded past menacingly from time to time.

On the maintenance front, armed with spares from their foray to the Suzuki shop, both David and Richard wanted to get their outboards sorted.

David set the engine stand up next to Cape and soon had his impellor replaced and oil changed.  Having sorted the carburettor and gear oil last week he was able to drop the engine onto his dinghy and confirm that things were looking much healthier J

Richard then set to work on our engine.  After starting the engine to warm the oil it was soon clear that an impellor change was on the cards for us as well.  So after changing the engine oil he set to work on the impellor with the benefit of David’s recent experience.  Things went well except for when he managed to shear off the bolt clamping the gear change cable which had rusted solid.  This evening’s job is releasing the sheared off bolt so he can replace it tomorrow. Fortunately changing the gear oil went somewhat smoother J
