Sunday 2nd September – On Passage

43:33.518N 4:28.416W

Unfortunately, today remained overcast with a threat of rain, but it didn’t dampen our spirits and we think Santander will be a place we visit again some day.  The weather forecast was for F3/4 with a light swell and so after a late, leisurely lunch, Spanish style, and a visit to the fuel pontoon which didn’t open until 4.30pm, it was back on the road.

As we came out of the mouth of the river, we set sail and managed to sail for a while.  As we were sailing between a small island and the mainland, a sight-seeing vessel turned up, just as I went below to fix us a drink.  Richard announced that it was now facing directly towards us, but not to panic, they were simply turning and passed astern taking photographs of us.  I stayed down below as I wasn’t wearing my Sunday best.

Anyway, we persevered with sailing for a while but the wind reduced to 7 knots and as it was abaft the beam and the swell was really kicking us around, we gave up and we are now motoring on.  We’ll see what happens later.

Richard tells me that this is a light swell but I’m not so sure – I think it’s pretty yuk and it’s throwing all the pots and pans around in the cupboards.

A treat at around 8.00, when we were accompanied by dolphins off the starboard bow.
